A 25-year-old witness in a murder case was shot at in Outer Delhi's Sultanpuri area on Monday night.
The victim has been identified as Sidharth Sharma, the main eyewitness in the murder of a woman, who was killed in March 2016 in Mongolpuri area. His condition is said to be critical as he is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
According to a senior police official, Sharma was being under constant pressure to withdraw his statement. But he had refused to do so and had also gone to the local court in Rohini on Monday morning. When he had returned from the court, he was shot that very same day outside his house in Krishan Nagar.
"Sharma was the main witness along with another person in the murder case. The case was registered based on their statements. After that Sharma was being constantly threatened to withdraw the complaint," the officer said.
Police said that based on the CCTV footages of the area and questioning of the locals, the accused persons were identified and raids were conducted at their possible hideouts. Some suspects were finally detained on Tuesday.
"We have detained some persons related to this case and their questioning is currently going on. Arrests will be made soon. Meanwhile, Sharma is still in the hospital," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Rishi Pal.
Sharma was his family's sole bread winner. He lives with his mother in Krishna Vihar. His father died ten years ago.
