Rs 18 lakh in fake notes seized, three arrested for running racket

Post demonetisation, this is the second big catch by Delhi Police after fake Rs 2,000 notes of quality paper were caught. The accused targeted bookies and hawala operators to circulate the FICN notes minimising their chances of being.

Days after a graphic designer was arrested from Bindapur for printing fake notes of the new notes, the Special Cell arrested three persons who were part of the gang that has evolved into printing fake currency of Rs 2000 notes. The arrested accused have been identified as Azad, Manoj and Sunil. While Azad is a resident of Delhi, the other two are from Sonepat in Haryana. They were nabbed from Narela in Delhi. Fake currency worth Rs 18 lakh has been recovered from their possession.

"Interesting part is that they circulated the fake currency of new denomination to hawala operators and bookies. We were receiving inputs that a gang is operation in Delhi printing FICN and on specific input, the three have been arrested," said Sanjeev Yadav, DCP (Special Cell).

The accused used a paper of fine quality matching the ones of the original notes and once they printed it, they cut the edges with the help of scissors. It is obvious that the gang exploited the fact that still people are finding it difficult to differentiate between a fake note and a real one.
