The Gurugram administration has decided to implement Section 144 in major areas of the city in order to tackle with the Jat agitation that is slated to be held across the state on January 29. Key areas in the city which includes highways, railway lines and vital city routes will be restrained for the public starting from Friday.
Section 144 will also be implemented at significant areas like the railway stations, power plants and Basai Canal, the canal that supplies water to major parts of the city.
The administration plans to implement Section 144 from January 27 around certain areas of the city and plans to continue with it till January 30. To prevent situations of riots, the Gurugram Police have also issued strict directives against grouping of five and more people.
Police officials have mentioned that people who defy the order, will be penalised under Section 188.
Though the city police have provided slight concession towards religious gatherings, officials have urged people to prevent congregation for a period of time till the effect of the agitation subsides.
Taking into consideration that major multinational companies are located in Gurugram, various government and police officials have also begun discussions with the company staff.
The administration has chalked out certain routes for the office going public so that they are not affected by the Jat agitation. Senior government officials are also constantly carrying out discussions with the Jat community leaders in the city and are requesting them to protest peacefully.
"We are constantly keeping in touch with the Jat leaders and urging them to put forward their demands peacefully and within the ambit of law," said Hardeep Singh, the District Commissioner of the city. "Though Gurugram was not affected in the previous Jat agitation in February last year, the administration is not taking any chance," added Singh.
