Radio taxi drivers stage protest

Hearing the news of the death of a cab driver in South Delhi, radio taxi cab drivers resorted to WhatsApp to spread news and lend a helping hand to deceased Nazrul's poor family. Soon, close to 500 drivers, most of whom did not even know Nazrul, decided to stage a protest outside the Vasant Vihar police station. They stationed their cabs in front of the police station and demanded immediate action in the case.

In order to help anyone who is in need, the drivers made an emergency WhatsApp group for speedy help. It was through this group that the news of the tragic accident was spread from one driver to another.

"We have skipped our work today (Monday). As soon as we got the news, we spread the word through WhatsApp. We have collected approximately Rs 16,000 for arranging the transportation of the dead body and his funeral," said Rashid Khan, a cab driver. The drivers also levelled serious allegations against the cab services and said that the deceased was on duty when the incident happened.

"Not even a single Uber official paid a visit to the family. Nazrul was on duty, ideally the company should have sent someone to help the family but no one came," said Jahangir, a driver.
