Newly-married woman hangs self, inquiry on
NEW DELHI: A newly-married woman committed suicide at her in-laws' house in Gokalpuri in North-East Delhi. The incident was reported on Sunday afternoon around 12:30 pm when the in-laws informed the family members of the woman. The woman has been identified as Eram. The family members said that she was 4 months pregnant.
The family of the deceased woman alleged that Eram committed suicide after she was harassed by her husband and the in-laws in Old Mustafabad area of Gokalpuri. Her body was found hanging in her room on the first floor of the in-law's residence.
"The girl has been undergoing harassment by her husband and in-laws for quite some time, she just kept quiet because of the family honour. We suspect a foul play in the incident. It is also suspected that she ended her life due to extra-marital affairs of her husband," said a relative.
Eram married Nazim alias Sonu in November last year and according to the family, their relationship was strained since then. Nazim is having a cosmetic store. The woman was from Vijay park in Maujpur.
"We want a thorough inquiry into the incident as we suspect her in-laws' hand in the death of Eram," said a relative.
Meanwhile, the police have sent the body for post-mortem and are awaiting the report.
"We are awaiting the autopsy report. Meanwhile, the magisterial inquiry is under process," said DCP North-East Atul Kumar Thakur.
