New hostel manual: JNU admin calls presidents to resolve issues

New Delhi: In a tussle that has escalated to a different level, Jawahrlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) on Monday marched from the campus till Vasant Kunj Police Station to file a "missing complain" on University's Vice Chancellor (VC) Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar.

The students who have been protesting against the new hostel manual, saw about 2500 of them marching to meet the VC raising "missing VC slogans". Police was also deployed outside the campus with barricades to stop the students from marching towards the police station.

Meanwhile, the JNU Admin has asked the hostel presidents for a meeting on November 6.

"We request the hostel presidents to meet their provosts along with the wardens and discuss their issues. We appeal to the students to resume their academic activities. Issues can be resolved through dialogue with the officials of Inter Hall Administration," said a statement from JNU VC.

The students have been protesting against the new manual, which has been allegedly approved without the any hostel president or student union's consent.

"They drafted this manual without any consultation from the student committee. They also had an IHA meeting on Monday where they passed everything in the manual within 15 mins," a student who was present at the protest told Millennium

Post.

However, Jagadesh Kumar called all this rumours.

"Rumours are being spread by some motivated students about new hostel manual recently approved by Inter Hall Administration (IHA) committee. JNU administration appeals to student community not to be misled by those who are trying to derail the normal functioning of the University," he wrote on Twitter.
