NDMC to establish directorate of AYUSH, 50-bed AYUSH hospital

New Delhi: To provide the holistic treatment through Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) to patients, New Delhi Municipal Council on Wednesday decided to set up a separate Directorate of AYUSH from its Medical Services Department.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the council chaired by New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi.

According to NDMC officials, the Council also plans to establish a 50-bed AYUSH Integrated Hospital and Research Centre at Sarojini Nagar within two-three years.

A Centre of Excellence in Community Wellness at Tughlaq Crescent will also be set up, which would provide technological solution, innovation, training, institutional strengthening and social norms to strengthen partnerships with government, civil society, academia and private sector.

"Under the Ayush system of medicine, the Council provides primary care through 13 homeopathic dispensaries, 12 ayurvedic dispensaries, two Unani dispensaries, two yoga camps, naturopathy centre, one Siddha dispensary, an ayush polyclinic, two ayush separate wellness centres, an ayush holistic centre and one centre of ayush medical stores," an official of the Council said. More than three lakh patients visited these centres every year, he added.
