Greater Noida: A 28-year-old woman and her two-year-old son were charred to death after the wagon R car they were travelling in caught fire in Rabupura area of Greater Noida late on Sunday night. Curiously, the woman's father-in-law who was driving the car somehow managed to escape with minor burn injuries.
According to police, the deceased have been identified as Saroj and her son Mukul. The car was driven by her father-in-law Madan Pal Singh.
"While returning from Bulandshahr to their home in Faridabad at around 9 pm, their car caught fire near Faleda village killing the mother, son duo while leaving another injured. The charred bodies have been recovered and sent for post-mortem while the injured was taken to hospital where he is undergoing treatment" said police.
However, family members of the deceased woman have alleged that she had been murdered and then kept in the car which was set ablaze to make it appear like an accident.
"We have received a complaint from deceased woman's father alleging that their daughter and grandson have been murdered over not fulfilling dowry demands. A case has been registered in this regard and investigation is underway" said Rajveer Singh Chauhan, station house officer, Rabupura police station.
According to the complainant, the woman was married to a man identified as Bunty around seven years back and since then there were repeated dowry demands.
"Earlier, the woman returned to her father's home for two years when she was repeatedly beaten up by her in-laws, and during that time only she gave birth to her child following which the in-laws came and took her back with the assurance that they would not misbehave with her in future. After taking her back to their home they planned her murder and made it look like an accident" the victim's father stated in his written complaint.
