More than 3,000 turn out to participate in 'Run for Ayurveda'
New Delhi: In a bid to create awareness and relevance of ancient medicine therapy Ayurveda among the people, more than 3,000 participants gathered on Sunday morning to take part in a run from JLN Stadium to Lala Lajpat Rai Marg and back to JLN stadium, a distance of 10 km.
The marathon was flagged off by Shripad Yesso Naik, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of AYUSH and Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, Rajesh Kotecha. Moreover, the winners received the cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 8,000, and Rs 6,000 in each category (male and female) along with trophies/medals and certificates.
Addressing the gathering, Shirpad Yesso Naik, Minister of Ayush, said that it is heartening to see such strong presence for promoting the Indian medical sciences of Ayurveda which had not received the deserved focus until recent yearr. He also added that this system of medicines which was being practiced for years was being suppressed for many years now.
However, we have now taken steps to revive these sciences. In the past 4 years, we have made good progress in the field, and as a result, have been able to establish large institution like All India Institute of Ayurveda. We envision establishing more institutes in various cities for encouraging Ayurveda and other Indian medical sciences."
