More challenges for Bhondsi jail officials
Gurugram: Challenges galore for officials of Bhondsi jail to not only ensure security of the 2500 criminals lodged in the jail but also to prevent the illegal activities taking place in the premises. Last Friday, a criminal escaped from the premises in a garbage truck. Though not reported widely, violence inside the district jail seems to a periodic affair. There have been various instances where the unholy nexus between the police officials and criminals within the jail premises are seen.
In one such incident, the dreaded gangsters Manjeet Mahal and Binder Gurjar were found guilty of making an extortion of delivery of a luxury sedan from a fellow inmate inside the jail. There was also a police officer who was arrested for supplying drugs to the prisoners. Despite continuous raids, the top police officials have not been able to prevent the dreaded criminals from using the cell phones within the jail.
Criminals from as many as 6 dreaded gangs are presently being locked up in the city jail. These gangs include Manjeet Mahal gang, Kaushal gang, Kishan gang, Hayatpuri gang, Sandeep Gadoli gang, and Binder Gujjar gang. Most of the members from these gangs have been charged with serious offences like extortion, burglaries, and murders.
Sensing the dangers involved, attempts have also been made to shift some of the prisoners to Tihar. Yet, most criminals often opt for Bhondsi jail owing to various loopholes that have been exploited by them in the past.
