Modernisation drive brings tech-led policing to Capital
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police is steadily modernising its systems, with digital tools gradually replacing paper-based processes and improving public access to services.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, said modernisation is being supported through central funding to states
and Union Territories for upgrading policing infrastructure and technology.
Funds are being used to procure high-tech equipment such as drones, night-vision devices, video surveillance systems, wearable cameras and advanced weapons, while also strengthening communication systems, training facilities, forensic capabilities, cyber response and traffic management.
In Delhi, police continue to upgrade equipment and infrastructure through these allocations, ensuring consistent improvements across stations.
From a citizen-centric approach, several services have been moved online. Residents can apply for gun licences, obtain police clearance certificates, report stolen vehicles, file lost item reports and verify tenants digitally. Complaints can be tracked online, while traffic fines can be paid electronically.
Specialised platforms such as Himmat Plus, a senior citizens’ app, Traffic Prahari and Sashakti aim to enhance safety and engagement. Citizens can also report cyber fraud through helpline 1930. Officials said these gradual, technology-driven changes are improving efficiency and service delivery without disruption.
