MCG to place ads on public toilets

Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) will be placing private advertisements in over 150 public toilets which have come up in the city under Swachh India Abhiyan. According to the public officials, if they are able to rake in enough money through the advertisements, it will be used for the maintenance of the toilets. For a city that is preparing to improve its rankings as far as cleanliness is concerned, many can still be seen relieving themselves even in posh localities of MG road and Golf Course Road.

There have also been complaints that the lack of toilets is resulting in open defecation across vacant areas especially in Sectors-37, 46, 39, 45 where many labourers work at various construction sites. Amidst many public agencies claiming the city of being Open Defecation Free, the residents do not seem to be impressed by the claims.

Ever since the announcement has been made, residents have taken to social media and have been lambasting the state agencies of not knowing the ground reality. Even though large numbers of portable toilets have been built, it has not proved to be enough for the ever-increasing migrants in the city. The stench in the streets of Gurugram is not expected to end soon as the shortage of public toilets continues to be a major challenge in the city. Tasked with the responsibility of setting up public toilets, civic body continued to face the challenge of not getting land in different sectors of the city.

With MCG not getting land in the densely populated areas of the city, it has been opening public toilets around the surrounding villages which do not have many numbers of passersby. Meanwhile, not only in the sectors but also in posh public areas like MG road and Golf Course Road, lack of public toilets still continues to be a major problem.
