MCG sacks 58 employees

Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has sacked 58 employees who were outsourced and were working in different departments in the municipal body.

These workers were employed in the horticultural department, marketing department and administration. In a warning to other employees the MCG commissioner Amit Khatri has also said that if required some more outsourced employees will also be removed.

This is for the first time that such a large amount of employees have been sacked by the municipal body ever since it was formed in 2008.

The sacking by the MCG comes in the wake of questions being raised over the employment criteria used by the MCG to induct the workers. Moreover, the MCG is also receiving a lot of flak in terms of not deploying manpower to improve the situation of pollution in the city.

Various other initiatives to check encroachment and enforcing plastic- ban in the city have also failed because of poor implementation in the ground by the MCG workers

There are over 1950 outsourced employees presently rendering their services in MCG.

Various councilors have voiced their unhappiness over the working of the outsourced employees in the counselor meetings.

"The move by the MCG is a welcome step. There have been allegations that MCG has not been transparent in its move to hire these workers. There is also a substantial portion of money which is being wasted on these workers. The same amount of money can be utilised for improving the civic services in the city which is deteriorating by the day," said RS Rathee, Counsellor from ward 34.

Even though the municipal body has a total of budget of Rs 1884 crore it only spent Rs 467 crore which one fourth of it in the development works. The rest 75 percent of the budget laid unspent in the fiscal year of 2018-19.
