MCG making plans to ease parking woes in Old Gurugram

Gurugram: Lack of parking spaces continues to be a major problem in Gurugram for several years now.
This challenge is more so felt in areas of old Gurugram, which continues to be plagued by traffic congestion due to illegal parking.
Senior officials of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) claim to have taken cognisance of the problem.
During a recent meeting of the Corporation, it was significantly decided that new parking areas will be introduced in the crowded localities of the Millennium City, such as Sadar Bazaar and Sohna Chowk.
To create spaces in Sadar Bazar's already congested areas, it has been decided to move the animal treatment centre of Jain temple to create a new parking lot. Sadar Bazar is not only the largest marketplace, but also the central areas of old Gurugram.
Similarly, in Sohna Chowk, options are being explored in the old Jail Road area.
MCG officials have also begun their survey to determine the feasibility of creating a multi-level parking in Old Gurugram.
This is not the first time that parking woes have become a cause of concern for MCG.
In a major step taken in this regard, it was recently decided that there will be no property tax levied on the basement of shopping malls, if they provide free parking to vehicles.
Most of these malls are located in Sohna Road and MG Road areas of Gurugram, where the issue of illegal parking was a major issue.
Public authorities, in the past, have also made plans to allow citizens to use their vacant plots as parking lots.
