MCG increases fine amount from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 for burning waste

Gurugram: In order to deter the people from burning the garbage in open the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has increased the number of fines to be levied. Earlier where people used to pay Rs 500 now they will have to pay Rs 1000.

It is important to note that burning the garbage in open is one of the main reasons cited for Gurugram being one of the most polluted cities in the country

"We feel that increasing the fine will prove to be a major deterrent for the people who burn the garbage in the open. We have encouraged the people to recycle waste and many persons have also participated in this initiative. However, there are still some who are not complying the law and in effect harming the environment," said a senior official from MCG.

Even as the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) plans to set up compost units in all the residential areas of Gurugram, as of now the municipal body is struggling with proper treatment of waste.

Already facing the problem of mass dumping of garbage at vacant areas, citizens in various residential areas are now complaining of how there is rampant burning of garbage in such sites.

The burning of garbage is banned in Gurugram as per the National Green Tribunal Orders (NGT).

Citing waste burning to be one of the main causes of pollution in the city, MCG too had assured the residents of taking strict action against it.
