MCD polls: Civic bodies go on inauguration spree

The three BJP-ruled civic bodies have gone on an inauguration spree, from opening new parking lots to easing trade licence besides naming and renaming streets, to woo voters ahead of the municipal polls.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections are due in April and councillors and senior party leaders, across party lines, are leaving no stone unturned to make most of the time before the model code of conduct kicks in.

The erstwhile MCD was trifurcated in 2012 into North Delhi Municipal Corporation, South Delhi Municipal Corporation and East Delhi Municipal Corporation. BJP has been ruling the MCD for the last 10 years. On March 2, the NDMC launched a facility for traders to get business licences issued or renewed at their doorstep.

"Online services to register or renew trade/health trade licence have been started at northdmctradehealthlicense.com as well," North Delhi Mayor Sanjeev Nayyar said.

The Kejriwal-led party has also announced a slew of schemes in the last few weeks. On February 17, a Rs 38 crore-multi-level car parking facility in south Delhi's Kalkaji area with a capacity to accommodate 406 vehicles, was inaugurated.
