MCD clears out 158 garbage points
New Delhi: Mayor Shelly Oberoi announced on Monday that the city will be completely cleaned ahead of Diwali, as 158 Garbage Vulnerable Points (GBVs) have almost been cleared by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
The Corporation had identified points across Delhi where people often throw garbage and started a dedicated campaign for cleaning them, earlier this year. These included 10 GVPs in Keshav Puram Zone, 13 in Karol Bagh, 37 in Rohini, 10 in Najafgarh, 15 in Shahdara South, 21 in Shahdara North, 35 in Central Zone, 13 in Narela, 10 in West Zone and 22 in Civil Lines Zone. Out of these 158 are being tackled and the remaining will follow suit in the next 20 days, according to the Mayor.
“Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, Councillors and all officials of MCD worked together under the ‘Ab Delhi Hogi Saaf’ campaign. It is a great achievement for all that we have eliminated almost 50 per cent of the 158 GVPs. These remaining GVPs will also be cleaned by Diwali. The people of Delhi will now get freedom from these garbage heaps”, said Oberoi while appealing to civilians for their support. The Leader of the House, Mukesh Goyal also requested everyone to throw the
garbage at appropriate places to keep the streets clean while instructing officials to regularly dispose of the garbage generated.
“Our fight is not just against the three landfill sites. Our fight is also against the heaps of garbage lying in the streets and roads of 70 constituencies. We all have to fight this battle together”, said Deputy Mayor, Aaley Mohammad Iqbal as he promised that MCD will be successful in making the city completely “garbage free”.
