Masked men gun down builder in Jamia Nagar
New Delhi: A local builder in Jamia Nagar's Batla House was gunned down by unidentified assailants on Monday evening. The victim was rushed to Holy Family Hospital after the shooting, but was declared brought dead.
Cops are investigating whether it is a case of personal enmity or contract killing.
"A PCR call was received at 6.05 pm regarding firing at sir Sayyad Road Batla House. The deceased has been identified as Dilshad Khan, a resident of Joga Bai in Jamia Nagar. Local enquiry revealed that two helmet-sporting persons on foot fired four rounds at Dilshad and escaped through the local streets," said Chinmoy Biswal, DCP (South East).
Khan, a member of Bahujan Samaj Party, was a native Sathla village in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and had been residing in Delhi for many years. He was also a member of Sathla zila panchayat.
"The shooting caused a lot of panic in the area. The assailants should be brought to book as soon as possible," said Feroz, a local resident.
After news of Dilshad's murder reached them, locals gathered at Holy Family hospital and demanded action against the accused.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has formed several teams to identify and arrest the accused. CCTV camera footage from areas around the crime scene is being gathered to get clues about the attackers, who fled the spot immediately even before the public could respond.
Dilshad was immediately rushed to the hospital in a battery rickshaw by locals, but he succumbed to the gunshot wounds.
