Masked duo snatches woman journalist's bag near ITO

New Delhi: A journalist working with Millennium Post became a target of snatchers in the high-security ITO zone on Thursday afternoon after two masked men on a bike snatched her bag.

The victim, Simontini Bhattacharjee, was on her way to attend a press meet when the culprits sneaked from behind and snatched her bag containing debit card, PAN card, credit card and other vital documents. She also sustained injuries trying to resist the snatching attempt.

Narrating her ordeal, Bhattacharjee tweeted, "Dear authority whether it is State or the Centre, in a long high way there is no single CCTV, which is 500 m arena of Delhi Police Headquarters and in the national capital!! Shameful!!"

Bhattacharjee is not the first victim to have been a victim of such a crime. On previous occasions, phones and other valuables have been snatched from many journalists in the vicinity of the police headquarters.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said they are taking the matter seriously and will solve the case soon. "We are trying our best to recover the bag and arrest the accused," said the DCP.

Areas under the jurisdiction of IP Estate police station are vulnerable to snatching, with police sources claiming that there is a shortage of personnel at the station.

A letter was written in 2017 by the Central district police to the police headquarters about the same issue. The letter requested posting of four additional inspectors, as well as more government vehicles at the police station.
