Man wipes out entire family, kills wife and 3 children in Mehrauli

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a private tutor in Delhi's Mehrauli wiped out his entire family on Saturday. The accused Upender Shukla killed his wife Archana, two daughters aged 7 years and 2 months, and a 5-year-old son allegedly with a kitchen knife. He was immediately arrested for the act. The police said the crime took place around 1.30 am on Saturday. Shukla allegedly slit the throats of all his family members. The police have found the kitchen knife used in the gruesome murders. The crime team was later called who took forensic evidence from the crime spot.

The accused Upendra Shukla confessed to his crime in a note but did not give any reason for it. It is believed that he was under depression because of the health issues of his wife and his own financial problems. What exactly went wrong in the family which led Shukla to take this extreme step is still a matter of investigation.

The incident came to light when Shukla's mother-in-law, who was present in the house, did not get a response after she knocked on their door. Sensing some trouble, she sought help from neighbours who called the police control room.

"A resident of the building came rushing to me and told that there have been strange voices from the fourth-floor resident Upendra Sharma's house after peeping inside blood was seen too. We called the police immediately. Upendra kept to himself and rarely talked much, we couldn't believe he could kill his family," said Deepak, who runs a grocery store in the lane.

The police from Mehrauli police station immediately reached the spot.

"We found a note in Hindi and English in which he claimed to have killed his family. He was found sitting inside the same room where he murdered his family. What we gather is that his wife had diabetes and he was not financially stable," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Vijay Kumar said. "Whether this or some sort of depression or family dispute led to the crime will be known after interrogation," the officer added.
