Man tries to steal money from cash van, shot dead
New Delhi: A cash van guard opened fire at a man who tried to rob money from the cash van near Pul Prahladpur Red Light on Friday morning.
The robber was rushed to the hospital with a bullet injury in his head but was declared brought dead. The police is trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased who appear to be in his early twenties.
According to police, as the toll tax collection van reached the Pul Prahladpur Red light, a man tried to sneak in opening the rear door of the Tata Sumo.
However, the robber was soon spotted by the cashier and the intruder was challenged. As a result, a scuffle broke out between the cashier and the robber for the possession of the bag. Sensing trouble, the cash van guard loaded his gun and aimed at the robber.
The bullet hit him in the head. As he started bleeding the public present at the red light called police at 1:50 am.
The caller told cops that a man tried to rob MCD Toll Tax cash van and was fied upon by the guard.
Soon, the ambulance and the police van arrived and the injured man was shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Center where the doctors declared him brought dead. Some chilly powder was also found from the spot.
"The cash van had cash of approximately 14 lakh which they collected from Badarpur Toll Tax. The cash van was moving to their head office at Vasant Kunj when the incident took place near Pul Prahladpur Red light," DCP South East Chinmoy Biswal. Since police found no weapons from the possession of the deceased, it is also likely that he was a member of any Thak Thak gang which operates at the red lights and tried to sneak inside the cash van from behind eyeing the cash bag.
However, the police said that they are investigating if he came with his associates. Police is trying to verify the identity of the deceased accused.
