Man stabs wife suspecting her to be in illicit relationship
The victim said that her two sons reached the spot and saved her from the man
New Delhi: Suspecting his wife of being in a relationship with a younger man, a 60-year-old man allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp object in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar area.
Police said that they have arrested the accused in the case. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Parvinder Singh said that the incident happened on Saturday morning, following which the woman (56) was rushed to a nearby hospital and is stated to be out of danger.
The couple has three sons who were at home at the time of the incident.
"When I was sweeping the floor in the morning around 5:30 am, my husband called me. He told me that yesterday (Saturday) you let my children beat me. He took out a knife and attacked me in stomach, neck," the victim told the police.
She further said that her two sons reached the spot and saved her. The sons managed to lock their father inside a room and immediately she was rushed to a nearby hospital.
In the meantime, police were informed about the incident.
"The caller told police that the father had attacked the mother with a knife and was trying to flee from the spot before he was locked up in a room," police said.
The police staff reached and found blood stains at the spot. One paper cutter was also found on the floor.
Investigators said that during interrogation, the accused told police that he suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship with a 23-year-old man who also lives in the same locality.
An officer further said that the investigations revealed that the accused is jobless and have an alcohol addiction. He often argued and picked up fights with his wife and children over petty issues.
"On Saturday, the accused again argued with his wife. The issue was sorted after their children intervention," police said.
The weapon of offence has also been recovered, police said.
Two of their sons are married and the younger one is 23-year-old, they added. A case under 307 (attempt to murder) of Indian Penal Code was registered in Sangam Vihar police station and the accused husband was arrested, the officer added.
