Man stabbed to death for intervening in scuffle over public urination

NEW DELHI: Intervening in a fight between two men over urinating in the open proved fatal for a 30-year-old man, who was stabbed to death by one of the two men.

The incident was reported from Shastri Park area of north east Delhi early Friday morning, with Delhi Police saying the deceased has been identified as Waseem, a bus conductor.

Cops said he was stabbed fatally on the neck by a man who was objecting to another man's urination in public.

The incident occurred when Waseem, who was sitting in an auto, saw two men fighting at New Usman Pur.

Sources said that when Varun was urinating in the open, a man came up to him and scolded him for the act. Varun retaliated, and soon he and the yet-to-be identified man got into a scuffle.

Realising that the man was aggressive, Varun rushed to a nearby auto which was already having a passenger. As Varun tried to sit in the auto, he was dragged out by the attacker.

The passenger, Waseem, was infuriated at seeing Varun being harassed by the man and decided to intervene.

When Waseem physically intervened and tried to save Varun, the enraged man took out a knife and attacked Wasim, who was struck on the neck and began bleeding profusely.

"The altercation started over urination in the public, but when Waseem intervened he was attacked and killed," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Atul Kumar Thakur.

Police are yet to identify the assailant, who fled the spot immediately after the attack. Teams have been formed and cops are collecting intelligence to know the murderer's identity. They believe that a local resident is the culprit.

"We have formed teams and are looking for the man who killed Wasim," said a senior police officer.
