Ghaziabad: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly bludgeoned to death by her husband's younger brother with a spade inside her residence in Masuri area of Ghaziabad on late Thursday night.
Police said that woman's husband Aarif and his youngest brother had a dispute over their ancestral property since their separation.
Cops added that the accused, identified as Javed (28), was caught by Aarif's neighbours in the wee hours of Friday, after his children raised an alarm after they saw Javed killing their mother Reshma.
According to police, Javed, a labourer, went to Aarif's house on Thursday night to discuss the property matter, while Aarif was not present at home.
After a heated discussion with Reshma, Javed picked up a spade and started struck her on the head several times.
Reshma's children saw her the gruesome incident and started screaming for help.
Hearing the cries, other members of Reshma's family and the neighbours immediately reached the spot and caught hold of the accused before he could escape.
Arvind Kumar Maurya, Superintendent of police (Rural), Ghaziabad, said that the incident came into light at around 1 am on Friday, when Aarif's family members made a PCR call.
"As soon the incident was reported to us, a police team reached the spot and arrested the accused. The victim's body, with multiple sharp and blunt injuries over head, face and shoulder, has been sent for post-mortem. A case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered against the accused and investigation is on," said Maurya.
