Man involved in snatching cases to finance taxi business arrested
Noida: Noida police have arrested a 23-year-old youth who went on a spree of loot incidents to accumulate money to start a new business.
Cop said that the accused targeted women, mostly office-goers, in posh sectors of Noida and snatched their chain and wallets alone on his motorcycle.
According to police, the arrested accused has been identified as Abhishek Ojha, a native of Rambagh colony in Agra and lived at a rented house in sector 12 area of Noida.
"The accused is a BSc second year student at a private college and belonged to an educated family. He lived in Ashok Nagar area of Delhi for a few months before shifting to sector 12 in Noida," said police officials.
Vineet Jaiswal, Superintendent of Police, Noida said that the accused has allegedly committed as many as 12 incidents of loot in various sectors of Noida.
"The accused was arrested from near Fortune hotel in sector 19 of Noida during routine vehicular checking on Tuesday evening. He confessed to have committed nearly 13 incidents of chain and purse snatching from different women in past one year. The accused committed robberies even during the daytime and was operating in Sectors 1, 19, 27, 26, 41 and 12 of Noida," said Jaiswal.
The officer further said that the accused used YouTube to learn his modus operandi.
"During sustained interrogations, it came to light that the accused used to commit the robbery alone on his motorcycle would drive his TVS Apache bike using genuine documents and number plate but with a tape to cover the bike's registration number just before undertaking the loot. After committing the loot he used to melt the gold chain into a solid piece and sell it to jewellers. The accused has learned the process by watching different videos on YouTube," added Jaiswal.
Police said that the accused wanted to accumulate capital to start a new business.
"The accused told police that he wanted to start a taxi business and was accumulating capital to purchase car. Around 13 cases of loot are registered against the accused at different police stations of Noida. He will be produced before the court and will be sent to jail" said Jaiswal.
Police have recovered 10 gold chains and Rs 5500 cash from the possession of the accused.
