One person has been arrested by Special Cell of Delhi Police for his involvement in an inter-state arms supply racket and huge cache of arms recovered from his possession.
One carbine and five live cartridges and 30 semi-automatic pistols were recovered from the accused, 35-year-old Rajpal Singh.
After cops received secret input about Rajpal, a team was deputed to nab him along with the cache of arms. A trap was laid near the gate of Millennium DTC Depot, near Nizamuddin Bridge.
At about 4 pm on Friday, after being identified by the police informer, Rajpal was seen arriving near the gate of Millennium DTC Depot, along with a bag. He waited for about 30 minutes and then began moving towards Akshardham Mandir on foot.
The police team swooped in to surround and apprehend him. On finding himself cornered, the accused took out his pistol and threatened to fire. Undeterred by Rajpal's threat, constable Abhishek rushed towards him and overpowered him with the help of constable Sumer.
During interrogation, Rajpal disclosed that one of the Delhi contacts of his brother Richhpal Singh, a Madhya Pradesh-based manufacturer and seller of illegal weapons, was supposed meet him at the rendezvous spot to receive the delivery of consignment. "Rajpal disclosed that he has been working with Richhpal for more than seven years," said Sanjeev Yadav, DCP, Special Cell.
