Man held for trying to extort bizman

New Delhi: For enjoying the nightlife in clubs and to maintain his girlfriends, Vikas Mehta thought of extorting money from a businessman by taking the name of jailed gangster. However, the plan was failed as he was arrested near Dwarka Mod Metro Station on March 8.
Police claimed that due to lavish lifestyle, the accused, Mehta, started feeling financial crunch.
The accused with one of his friends decided to use the gangster Pradeep Solanki's name to terrify businessmen in the Uttam Nagar area and extort money from them.
As Solanki was arrested by the police and sent to Jail, both used to visit him in jail.
"The complainant reported that he was receiving an extortion call and the caller reportedly identified himself as Pradeep Solanki who threatened to murder him if he did not pay Rs 1 crore within 7 days," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh.
He further said that the accused's name came to light when a lead was developed that the criminals who go to meet Pradeep Solanki in Jail might be behind the whole episode to scare the business community in the area.
The arrest was made by the team of Sub-Inspecotr Naveen Kumar.
