Man held for highway dacoity of Rs 4.5 cr

New Delhi: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Wednesday said it solved a sensational highway dacoity of Rs 4.5 crore reported on September 20 in Dharuhera area of Haryana's Rewari district and arrested one Salman, a resident of Delhi's Wazirabad, on Tuesday.

Cops said the 32-year-old accused is a nephew of notorious gangster Khalil Ahmed, who was an aide of Dawood Ibrahim. Looted cash worth Rs 1.3 crore has also been recovered from Salman's possession.

On September 20, one Karan Patel and Gajendra Rathore had picked up Rs 4.5 crore from Chandni chowk and were on their way to Ahmedabad in their Toyota Etios car.

Around 8.30 pm, their car was intercepted by a Ford Endeavour, a Honda City and Volkswagen Vento. A dozen assailants came out of the three cars, threatened the duo with a rifle, bounded them up and kidnapped them in the Honda City car. The culprits dumped the two near Rajasthan and fled with the stolen cash.

"They distributed the money among themselves. Salman was the leader of this gang and had provided the information about the cash. Hence, he kept the lion's share of the booty of about Rs. 2.5 crores with himself," said Additional CP (Crime) Ajit Singla.
