Man held for forcing estranged wife to return home at gunpoint

Infuriated over his wife's decision to leave him and return to her family, a 27-year-old man tried to forcefully take her back to his house in Rohtak at gunpoint.

The estranged husband, Yashpal, was inebriated at the time of the incident and had threatened to open fire at his wife's brother's house in Outer Delhi's Sultanpuri in the wee hours of Monday.

Soon, the residents of the locality gathered outside the house and managed to seize the gun from Yashpal.

He was then thrashed by the people and later handed over to the police.

Yashpal had come with another person, Devender, who was also arrested in the case. One country made pistol and five live cartridges have been recovered from the accused.

Yashpal had got married to Rakhi around four years ago. He used to run a canteen in an ITI on contract.

According to police, Yashpal and Rakhi used to quarrel quite often and eventually the quarrels turned into a full-fledged marital discord, following which Rakhi decided to leave her husband and return to Delhi.

"Her brother Akash told us that he was contacted by his sister, who wished to return to Delhi. Akash visited the couple's home in Rohtak, Haryana and managed to safely get his sister back to Delhi," said a senior police official privy to the investigation.

However, when Yashpal found that his wife was missing he tracked her down to her brother's house and reached there with Devender. Soon, an argument ensued between the couple and later Yashpal pulled out his pistol and threatened to fire at them.

"But soon he was overpowered and the police was called. After taking down the statements, we registered an FIR under sections 452, 506, 336 and 334 of the IPC and sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at Sultanpuri police station," the police official said.
