NEW DELHI: A man allegedly committed suicide at his residence in the upmarket Vasant Kunj South locality of the Capital by hanging himself from the ceiling fan on Thursday.
Police said the deceased has been identified as Khitij Malhotra, who worked in an insurance company.
They added that on Thursday afternoon, a call was made by Malhotra's family about his suicide bid. Immediately, a police team reached the spot and took Malhotra down.
He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Sources said that Malhotra had married Vipasha, a resident of Panchkula in Chandigarh, two years ago.
Milind Dumbere, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West), said, "The family of the deceased came to Spinal Hospital (where the deceased was taken) and made allegations that his wife was not having good relations with the family and they suspected some foul play."
"However, there was no injury mark on body of the deceased. There was clear ligature mark on the neck," the DCP added.
The body of the victim has been sent for post-mortem examination and police are investigating the matter. "We would be more sure about the cause of death once a post-mortem is done. Our team has not found any suicide note so far," said a senior police officer.
