Man gets call to join terror outfit, police start probe
New Delhi: As Independence Day draws closer, the security arrangement in the city is being tightened. Apart from patrolling, the Delhi Police is also keeping a tab on phone calls being made to different countries and also coming to India. Recently, a man living in the South-West Delhi complained to law enforcement agencies that he got a call from an unknown number, telling him to join a terrorist organisation.
Police Sources told the Millennium Post that they got a complaint on Monday from a man in his 20s and who lives in Palam that he got a call from an international number, asking him to join a terrorist organization. "The caller spoke in Hindi and the complainant informed us without wasting any time . The necessary steps are being taken," added the police officer. Sources further claimed that they suspect that the call was made through Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP). Through the technique, a person can make phone calls from within the country while the receiver would see international mobile numbers of different countries.
In view of the Independence Day, the police are keeping a tab on international calls. They are also questioning the person who makes such calls. "During questioning, the callers normally claim that they have relatives abroad with whom they talk. Every single fact is investigated," added the police officer. The police are also holding meetings with guest-house owners where they have told to inform the police if they found any suspicious person staying at their guest house. "More than 300 guest houses have been checked by the police to make sure no suspicious person is staying in the guest houses," added the officer.
Delhi Police is also maintaining tight vigil at the guest houses near public places like hospitals. The police have increased the number of CCTV cameras in the city.
