Man drowns in canal while trying to save kid from being beaten up

New Delhi: Trying to save himself from being beaten up by the guard of a water park, a man jumped into a canal in south east Delhi, leading to his death, Delhi Police said on Monday.

According to police, on Sunday around 10.10 pm a call was received at Jamia Nagar police station.

Local police reached Kalindi Kunj water park and found out that three boys identified as Sameer, Saad and Rameez, all resident of Vishawakarma colony in Jaitpur, after having been drunk forcibly tried to enter the water park at 9.30 pm even though the water park was closed.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal stated that the guards on duty stopped them from entering the water park and a scuffle broke out.

While, Saad and Rameez managed to escape, Sameer fell inside.

Sameer was beaten by the guards and finally, he jumped into the Agra Canal. On Sunday night, he could not be traced, said the senior police official.

In the morning, a disaster management team traced his dead body.

Post-mortem has been completed and legal action is being taken. CCTV footages of the scene are also being analysed.

In another incident in Burari, two men drowned in a pond when they went inside to take a bath.

Recently, several cases of people drowning inside canals have been reported for the eastern part of the Capital.
