Man did not lodge complaint of being forced to chant religious slogans: Police

Gurugram: Muhammad Akil, the Gurugam police commissioner on Tuesday said that Mohammad Barkat Alam did not lodge the complaint of being forced to chant religious slogans as was alleged earlier.

The law enforcement officials have registered the complaint of the 25-year-old was beaten and not allowed to wear the skull cap.

The man in charge of 5,000 strong police force also said that he has formed a special investigating team so that the perpetrators involved in the crime are held at the earliest.

Meanwhile, there has been a change of narrative in the allegation of a Muslim man being subjected to hate crime and being made to chant religious slogans.

In the CCTV image, it has been shown that Barkhat got involved in the brawl with only one man and there were so six persons as was complained by the Barkat who works as a tailor in the city.

Looking at the matter between the two getting worse a nearby sweeper came forward and stopped the fight and asked the people to go their own way. As has been alleged earlier where it was claimed the group of six men tore the kurta of the 25-year-old, the CCTV images do not reveal any such incident taking place.

Alam had mentioned earlier, "It was around 10:15 pm on Saturday and I was returning from the mosque. Four men on bike and two on foot, who appeared to be drunk, stopped me. They said I cannot wear a skull cap in their area. Two men beat me while those on bike abused me and fled. I could not note down the bike's number, neither do I know them. But I can identify them if I see them again."

It has been claimed that when Barkat tried to push the man and run away, the man allegedly tore his shirt. As Barkat broke down the men left. Four of them drove away in a motorcycle and two just walked away into one of the alleys in the area. Notwithstanding the controversies that are surrounding the entire issue, the Gurugram police have questioned 15 people regarding the entire incident but as of now, it has not made an arrest.

Meanwhile traumatised by the entire incident, Barkhat has been asserting about his feeling unsafe in the city and expressed the desire to go back to his hometown Begusarai.

Not only Muslim minority organisations but a large number of prominent citizens and expressed their support for Mohammad Barkat Alam.
