Man commits suicide at Janakpuri East Metro station

New Delhi: A 50-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a running metro train at Janakpuri East Metro station in Delhi on Sunday.
A senior official of Metro Security said that the deceased man was identified as Kanwaljeet Singh.
The incident took place around 5.25 pm at platform number 1 of the station, as Kanwaljeet allegedly jumped in front of the train travelling towards Noida City Centre station.
Soon after the incident, CISF and Delhi Metro personnel rushed to the spot and rushed the man to to Deen Dayal Upadhaya hospital where he was declared dead, police said.
Police are trying to ascertain as to why he took the extreme step. Metro operations were resumed after 20 minutes.
Metro officials said a suicide note which was recovered from the site of the incident mentioned that Singh's prolonged illness was the reason behind his extreme step.
According to an official, Singh was taken out from tracks, bearing major head injuries and sent immediately to Deen Dayal Upadhaya hospital by an ambulance.
Officials further said that an an investigation has been initiated, while Metro services on the Blue line were affected briefly.
