Man arrested for molesting 2 girls in Delhi school

New Delhi: A 40-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly molesting two girls inside a classroom of a school run by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation, police said.

The accused has been identified as Varun Joshi, a resident of Yamuna Vihar, they said. According to police, the accused is an alcoholic. They said he was found inebriated while being nabbed.

After the school assembly on April 30, Joshi allegedly entered the classroom and sexually assaulted two eight-year-old girls before undressing himself and urinating in front of the students.

A complaint was filed following which the police launched a search for Joshi based on a sketch and footage from CCTV cameras in the neighbourhood. There were no cameras in the school, police said.

Meanwhile, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), taking action against the principal, teacher and school inspector of the school that witnessed a security breach which resulted in the assault of two girls on school grounds, EDMC sacked all three.

EDMC Mayor Shyam Sundar Aggarwal said "negligence in the safety of children is not tolerated" regarding the matter. Headed that they are taking action regardless of their post and are investigating the matter thoroughly. EDMC suspended Principal Sandhya Sharma, Class Teacher Vandana and in this case contract teacher Roopma Meena has been sacked. Apart from this, Deputy Director Ambuj Kumar has been warned by issuing show-cause notices to the school inspector and a teacher.

Aggarwal added that there are 354 schools in East Delhi Municipal Corporation. With this action, they would like to caution everyone that negligence of any kind will not be tolerated. Action will be taken against all the responsible officers found guilty in the investigation no matter what.
