Man arrested after 5 yrs on the run in murder case

New Delhi: The Crime Branch has arrested a proclaimed offender who had been on the run for five years in connection with a high-profile murder case, officials said on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Chintu alias Shintu, a native of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, and was apprehended by the Crime Branch’s NDR team. The arrest sheds light on his involvement in a sensational murder case registered at Lajpat Nagar police station.

According to the Special CP Crime Branch Ravindra Singh Yadav, the case pertains to a chilling murder that occurred on August 21, 2018, under the Moolchand flyover in Delhi.

The victim, identified as Dhani Ram, was discovered with a distinctive tattoo that aided in his identification. Subsequently, a case was registered under section 302 IPC, at Lajpat Nagar police station.

Investigations revealed that Chintu, along with his associate Dilip, engaged in a fatal altercation with the victim while gambling and consuming drugs beneath the Moolchand flyover.

In a drug-fuelled state, they brutally murdered Dhani Ram and subsequently fled to Rajasthan. Despite exhaustive efforts by law enforcement, the accused evaded capture and were subsequently declared proclaimed offenders

by the court.

Acting on credible intelligence, the Crime Branch’s SI Anuj Kumar and ASI Narender launched a meticulously planned operation to apprehend Chintu, who had been at large since the murder case came to light.

Under the leadership of Inspector Rakesh Sharma and the vigilant oversight of ACP Umesh Barthwal, the team executed the operation near Bhogal, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Delhi, resulting in the successful arrest of Chintu, Yadav confirmed.

Chintu’s criminal record is extensive, with involvement in eight criminal cases, ranging from arms violations to theft and assault. His repeated brushes with the law have earned him a reputation as a serial offender.

Chintu, also known as Shintu, is a self-professed vagabond and drug addict, eking out a life beneath the Moolchand flyover in Delhi. The accused, a school dropout, succumbed to a life of crime as a means to fulfil his needs and desires, Yadav added.
