Maid's death: Kin stage protest outside society

She was raped and then pushed from the balcony, alleges family

Ghaziabad: Following the death of a 19-year-old house help who fell to death from 14th floor of a residential tower in Olive County society in Vasundhara area of Ghaziabad, the family members of deceased along with over a hundred other house helps staged a protest outside society main gate on Tuesday morning, alleging that the woman has been raped and killed by her employer.

The incident occurred on Saturday when the woman identified as Meenakshi, died after she fell from the balcony of her employer's flat located on the 14th floor in Olive County society in Sector 5. Initially police investigated the matter to be of suicide but the family members have alleged that she was raped and then pushed from the balcony by her employer. On Tuesday, over a hundred maids staged a protest for nearly six hours at society's main gate and also blocked the traffic. The protesters also prevented other maids to enter the society during their protest and demanded actions against the employer. However, they were pacified when police intervened and assured them of a fair probe.

One of victim's family members said that the deceased had complained about her employer to behave with her inappropriately and suspected bad intentions from his side. "She has been working there from past three months and was employed for a 24 hours duty. She used to stay with them but several times she had complained about her employer to have bad intentions towards her. She was a very sensitive girl and we suspect that she was killed after being raped by her employer," a family member said. Meanwhile society has a domestic help cell which deals with the grievances of the maids working in the society.

"We have never received any complaint from the maid or her family in connection with the matter. We have formed a 'Domestic helps cell' in out society which is aimed at protecting the rights of maids," said Neelam Chaudhary, President of Apartment Owners Association (AOA) is the society.

Meanwhile, police officials said that the autopsy report didn't find rape and any marks on the body.
