Lured by scrap, thieves kidnap CEO of company, arrested

New Delhi: By luring a CEO of a reputed company to buy steel scrap, the thieves kidnaped the CEO. The CEO fell in the trap after seeing an advertisement in the newspaper by a gang of Mewat region. The victim was kidnapped from the Airport after he came to meet the perspective seller. Later, a ransom of Rs 50 lakh was demanded from his company. He then was taken to Haithya village but the kidnappers ran away after the Delhi Police raided the premises. The victim was rescued as he was left behind.
The accused who has been identified as Tariff was absconding since 2015 and later the Delhi Police announced a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest. He was arrested on March 26. "Criminals from Mewat region have been indulging in cow theft. They also committed murders and assaults on police parties. They are also involved in burglary, robbery and other heinous crimes in Delhi. Of late, these criminals have developed a new modus operandi. They lure people on the pretext scrap and gold biscuits and once the prospective buyer reaches their village, they would hold him captive and demand ransom money," said DCP Special Cell, PS Kushwaah.
