LG inspects progress of grade separator at Rani Jhansi road
New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday inspected the project site of grade separator at Rani Jhansi road, along with the senior officials of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (North MCD), Indian Railways, Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi Government, Delhi Traffic Police and other involved government agencies.
The inspection was also attended by Dr MM Rao from Indian Institute of Technolody–Delhi and Dr Rajiv Goel, senior principal scientist, Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), along with their teams.
The Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and officials of PWD briefed the LG about the planning of de-congesting the entry and exit points of the proposed Grade Separator from ISBT Kashmere Gate to Panchkuian Road, as the volume of traffic would increase after opening of Grade Separator for general traffic.
Railway officials, meanwhile, submitted that the construction work on their part has been nearly completed and only 10-15 days work is left.
Officials of North MCD submitted that the construction work on their part is in its last stage and would be completed by July 31, simultaneously with the special safety audit by CRRI and IIT Delhi.
The beautification and horticulture works have also been undertaken simultaneously.
The LG also directed all concerned departments to complete their respective works within the given timelines, so that the project can be dedicated to general public before Independence Day on August 15.
The grade separator project, which was originally conceived in 1998 and suppposed to be inaugurated in 2010 before the Commonwealth Games, has been plagued by numerous delays and bureaucratic hassles.
Agencies responsible for removing bottlenecks have often passed the buck for years, leading to the delay.
