LG inaugurates two new parks in south Delhi's Jaunapur village
New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday inaugurated two public parks developed by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) at Jaunapur village here.
According to an SDMC official, 813 trees have been planted in both the parks, besides providing facilities such as open gym and set swing with double see-saw.
Appreciating the efforts of the Corporation for completing the work in a very short time, Baijal said that children in the area will be benefited, as they can now enjoy rides of swings and open gym, which will help them in improving their physical health.
Baijal also asked SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel to develop more such parks and plant as many as possible plants in the coming monsoon season.
The Commissioner also announced that the civic body will revive at least 15 water bodies, including the 'Jaunapur Talab', in the near future.
Goel further said that SDMC will develop 100 such parks on Gram Sabha lands. "This is the first park developed by the Corporation on gram sabha land, allotted by the Revenue Department of the Delhi government, and very soon (SDMC) will develop 20 such parks on gram sabha lands, with open gym and swigs facilities," he said.
He added that the civic body has set an example for other local bodies in many fields, like replacing around three lakh conventional street lights by LED lights in record time, beautification of spaces under flyovers, generating solar energy by installing solar panels above buildings and selling excess electricity to discoms, or replacing its fossil fuel vehicles by e-vehicles.
A senior SDMC official said that the parks developed on gram sabha lands was allotted by the Revenue Department in February 2018.
On the occasion, SDMC Mayor Narender Chawla, South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri, South Zone Chairperson Tulshi Joshi, Area councillor Vedpal, Deputy Commissioner of South Zone Nidhi Srivastava and Engineer-in-Chief Umesh Sachdeva were also present.
