Landfill in Noida Sector-123: Protestors call for 'Noida bandh'

Noida: The under construction garbage dumping ground at a landfill site in Sector-123 in Noida is stirring a hornet's nest, as residents from sectors 117 to 122 have joined hands with residents of nearby villages to stage daily protests against authorities and the state government.

Amid this opposition, over a thousand agitators staged a massive protest and gathered near the land fill site on Sunday.

They conducted a mahapanchayat near the site to discuss their further action plans against the construction of the land fill. They were joined by women and children, as well as by villagers from nearby areas including Sorkha, Parthala, and Sarfabad.

Senior leaders from various political parties also joined the protest on Sunday. A senior leader from Samajwadi Party said, "The authorities must discuss with the people before coming to any decision which is directly linked to public's lives and health at a mass".

Meanwhile, residents have warned the authorities that they will not keep quiet and will continue their protest.

They have also called for a 'Noida Bandh' as a protest against the landfill for next Friday. Political parties and other groups have also agreed over the call for bandh.

"We will continue our protest against the landfill site in the future too. We have paid lakhs from our life time savings to buy a home here. If a landfill site is built here, it will create a civic hell of air, water and ground pollution levels, same as they are around the Ghazipur landfill site in Delhi" said Udit Chaudhary, a resident of Sector-120 Noida.
