Krishna Tirath & S C Vats willing to rejoin Congress
NEW DELHI: Former Union Minister Krishna Tirath and former Congress MLA S C Vats have written a letter to the Congress High Command expressing willingness to rejoin Congress. According to Senior Congress leaders several meetings have taken place between Sheila Dikshit and Krishna Tirath. Tirath, who was a Minister of State in the Manmohan Singh government, had joined the BJP in 2015. It is pertinent to mentioned that former union minister Tirath had contested the 2015 Delhi Assembly polls from a BJP ticket, but had lost to the AAP candidate. Tirath, who switched to BJP in May 2015, is also likely to come back to Congress fold in the coming days. A prominent Dalit face, she was an MLA from 1984 to 2004 and had served as Deputy Speaker in the Delhi assembly. Tirath was elected as Member of from North West Delhi parliamentary constituency in 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha. She also held charge of Women and Child Development in the Manmohan Singh cabinet. Earlier, former Delhi Minister and Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely, who had also switched to BJP had returned to the party back in 2018.
Another Senior leader SC vats had joined just before 2015 Delhi Assembly Polls ,but Vats expressed his willingness to Join Congress and he has written a letter to the Congress High Command.
According to sources, Tirath and Vats requests are pending for consideration. Presently , Chandni Chowk AAP MLA Alka Lamba also expressed her views to join Congress Party. Lamba went on to join the party and was made the general secretary of the All India Mahila Congress in 2002. She joined AAP in 2013 and won the Chandni Chowk seat in the 2015 Delhi assembly polls.
