Kherki Dhaula toll will be removed, assures Haryana CM

Gurugram: Felt many times let down by the issue, thousands of residents and commuters have been again given the assurance by none other than Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar that Kherki Dhaula will be removed soon. Even as the assurance comes, anxiety is growing as the digital transactions at the toll is expected to start from December 1. The registration of this project by the commuter is gaining steam by the day as the deadline nears.

It is believed that residents of 31 villages who were exempted earlier of paying the toll will also now come under this purview. Despite various assurances of shifting the toll, the implementation has not been carried out due to several roadblocks. The proposed site for the toll is believed to be situated at Panchgaon however, the area lies in the Aravallis and the construction here is expected to adversely affect wildlife.

Residents however, admit that since Kherki toll is a major revenue generator there is a delay. What has led to even more flaring of tempers is the decision to implement a steep increase in toll rates. Now from one way a passenger vehicle that used to pay Rs 60 will have to pay Rs 65 and heavy commercial vehicles that used to pay just Rs 185 will have to pay a one-way toll of Rs 190.

Many aggrieved residents claim that even after paying such a high price the facilities for the commuters have reduced and the main motive is only to increase the profits. The highway ambulances that used to be there earlier have also been removed claim the commuters. On an estimate over two lakh vehicles pass through the toll daily.

"It is high time that the state government must take the removal of Kherki Dhaula toll seriously. The loss of the BJP candidate from the area should provide warning signs that how much anger si there among the residents in the functioning of the toll." said Satish Sharma, one of the city commuters.
