Key gangman held for being part of extortion racket run from jail
New Delhi: Being in jail does not mean that a criminal is out of business. In fact, there are instances where a notorious criminal has spread his tentacles outside the jail walls, threatening and sometimes even masterminding even attempts on life on potential victims in Delhi.
It took Delhi police quite some time to convince Vijay Singh, a resident of Aliganj in Kotla Mubarakpur in South Delhi to lodge a complaint with the police and divulge the necessary details regarding the life attempt on him. Vijay was shot in his foot after men on a scooty opened indiscriminate fire on him on July 25. Vijay was rushed to AIIMS trauma center with gunshot wounds.
The complainant later revealed that the attack was the result of his reluctance in paying the extortion money or protection money. The complainant told the police that he received a call on the day of the attack and the caller threatened him with dire consequences if he did not comply to the demand. The cops were shocked to hear the name of Naveen Bali alias Bhanja, a dreaded criminal presently in Mandoli Jail to be behind the attack. Naveen Bali is the nephew of notorious criminal Neeraj Bawana. When a team of police officers investigated the case, they found that one Sunny, a resident of Kotla Mubarakpur passed on the victim's information to Subeg alias Sibu, an accomplice of Naveen Bhanja. Naveen then unleashed his shooters on the victim to intimidate him. Saddam Hussain, a sharp shooter along with a juvenile opened fire at the victim. Cops then arrested Sunny to and later apprehended the juvenile from Jangpura in Delhi. Cops also arrested Subek Singh from Uttarakhand.
"Armed policemen zeroed in on Saddam Hussain at Kale Khan at around dawn on August 2. Wearing bulletproof jackets, the cops challenged him, to which he opened fire hitting one of our sub-inspectors on the bulletproof jacket. In retaliation, he was injured in his leg by a police bullet and arrested," said Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Joint CP Delhi Police.
