Kenyan woman gangraped, 3 held

Guurgram: In yet another shameful incident, a Kenyan woman was forcefully dragged into an SUV from the busy Gurugram-Faridabad road on Wednesday night, taken to Ghata village near Sector-56 and then gang raped by five men. The police have registered the complaint and begun their investigation as three people have been apprehended in the case.

In a worrisome trend, the culprits are now brazenly committing acts of forcefully dragging the women in their vehicles from heavily populated areas of the city.

For long, the issues of molestation and thriving prostitution racket at MG road have always been a major challenge for the residents as well as the police officials in the area. It is MG road where most of the molesters have been held in the operations like Operation Durga initiated by Haryana Government and Operation Majnu initiated by Gurugram police. Despite the measures, women residents complain of insecurity prevailing in the mall mile. Residents and workers in the area claim that there has been no improvement in the situation.

A high profile area in the city known for its malls, pubs and offices and residential societies, there have been various incidents of heinous crimes against women that have been reported from the area. From molestation, burglaries to even daylight murders, MG road in just past two years has seen it all. "There must be a consistent policy towards safety and security of women. Catching hold of molesters and then releasing them later will not make a difference. Forget evenings, now it has become difficult to walk even during daytime in the area. Lack of apathy has resulted in MG road becoming for the women," said Rashmi Singh, a city resident.

"At 11 pm near the Sikanderpur Metro station, you can still see women in skimpy outfits and men in their SUV's stopping their vehicles and negotiating with them. It sometimes seems pathetic when even the men on the street try to negotiate with these women. Earlier, the sex trade was carried openly after the incidents were reported it is now occurring in a discreet manner," said Amit Chugh, a city resident.
