Justice for all, says Nirbhaya's father after SC judgement

New Delhi: The family of 2012 Delhi gang-rape victim dubbed the Supreme Court verdict upholding the death sentence awarded to the convicts as "justice for all." The family claimed that instead of keeping silence after the incident, they continued the fight backed by all sections of society which led to the victory.

Talking to the Millennium Post, the victim's father stated that the judgement has made sure that if any brutal crime happens with any woman she will get justice. He also said that the judgement will create fear in the mind of the criminals who think they can get away after committing the crime. "From 2012 to 2018, there have been ups and downs but my family stood up against the crime and due to which people supported us and we all won," said the family members.

The man who is in the late 40s recalled the day when he had to sell his agricultural land for his daughter's further studies. "I remember, that day she was crying and locked herself in a room as I did not have sufficient money for her further studies; my son told me to sell the land and I did, she was happy," he added. The horrific incident left the family in a shock but they stayed calm and composed as somehow they were aware that a long fight was waiting for their daughter justice. "When the news of review petitions of the accused came we were sure that justice will be delivered," added the father who is currently working at Delhi airport.

The family had given more preference of the education as they know it is the path to the development. "For me and my wife, tears are still there in the eyes, she was my lovely daughter and why she faced so much of pain I don't know," he said.

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal was very happy with the Supreme Court decision. Through her Twitter account, she said, "Welcome SC decision on Nirbhaya matter of upholding the death penalty to rapists. Wish the decision could have come earlier. Urge authorities to urgently execute the death penalty and give justice to Nirbhaya." The 23-year-old paramedic student was gang-raped on the intervening night of December 16-17, 2012 inside a moving bus in South Delhi by a gang of six persons and severely assaulted before being thrown out. She succumbed to her injuries on December 29 in Singapore. All the accused were nabbed by police.
