JNU administration asks students to end agitation near main entrance

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration on Saturday appealed to the agitating students to immediately
end their forcible closure of the main entrance (North Gate) to the University campus allowing normal flow of traffic.

The administration stated that the children, teachers, officers and karamcharis of the University are severely being affected, along with the campus dwellers, who are suffering from ailments and are not able to quickly exit the main gate to reach doctors or hospitals outside the campus when required.

The University administration also highlighted the difficulty faced by teachers and students who need to reach the airport and railway stations.

"While verbally abusing me, when I went to request them (agitating students) to keep the North Gate open, some of them manhandled the security guards who tried to open the gate for the commuters. Injured guards had to be taken to the Trauma Centre. More despicable was a threat by a student to kill a security guard," said the University Registrar.

The administration also expressed its dismay over the students who on Friday staged a protest demonstration outside the University Grants Commission (UGC) building and obstructed traffic for the general public.
