New Delhi: A gang of auto-lifters who stole luxury high-end cars was arrested from west Delhi, with Delhi Police on Sunday claiming that the receivers of the stolen vehicles changed their chassis numbers and prepare forged registration documents to sell them away further.

Cops said the arrested accused have been identified as Amit (27), Pramod Nagar (28), Kasif Raza (32) and Kansam Rajesh Singh (43), adding that two other accused Saddam Hussain (32) and Sarik (47) are absconding.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bharadwaj stated that Pramod Nagar had been arrested earlier, following which the gang leader Amit and his associate Kashif Raza were nabbed from Janakpuri.

Explaining the modus operandi of the entire gang, police said that accused used to steal vehicles as per demands from the receivers Saddam Hussain and Sarik, who generally demanded the latest SUVs.

After stealing the car, Amit and his men would sent the car to Sambhal or in accordance with Saddam and Sarik's directions.

After changing the chassis numbers of the vehicles and preparing forged registration documents, Kashif Raza used to sent the vehicle for delivery in Aizawl, Mizoram, through carriers. The receivers used pay Rs 1.5 to two lakh per vehicle to Amit and a lakh to the carrier for delivery.

Raza's receiver in Mizoran Rajesh Singh would, in return, pay from Rs five-six lakh per car, depending on the make and model. These would later be modified and sold for Rs 10-15 lakh by Singh.
