Inspection of roads for potholes from Oct 5: CM

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that 50 MLAs along with 50 engineers of Public Works Department (PWD) will inspect the roads for potholes starting from October 5. Each MLA along with one engineer will travel back and forth on a 25 km road looking out for potholes and the quality of the road. Collectively all the MLAs are expected to cover 1,260 km of the city's roads.

Kejriwal said, "Delhi roads should be good for the people who live here and for the traffic and also those who come from various countries to visit Delhi. It leaves a good impression on foreigners. Public Works Department (PWD) will work on it now that the rains are almost over." "The pair of MLA and Engineer will traverse the assigned road back and forth and lookout for potholes. They will take a picture of it and along with the location send it to an app that is specifically designed for this purpose. This will help us efficiently fix the roads as soon as possible and this way we will have a thorough and intensive inspection of all the roads–a sort of physical audit," he added.

The Delhi CM said that while inspecting three things could possibly happen –potholes, no potholes but the road is not good or some department's work is underway.

He said, "In case of work going on from any other department we will fix it after their work gets over and where there are potholes we will fix it immediately. This way of mapping pot-holes will give us an estimate of how long it will take to fix all the roads."

"Once this initiative starts within a day or two we should have all the required data and we will be able to chalk out a plan and implement it. We are beginning this exercise this year and we hope to continue it next year too. In future, we will be able to tell the people of this city that the roads under the purview of the Delhi state government are perfectly fine," he added.
