Inmates clash in Rohini jail, one strangled to death

New Delhi: A 22-year-old man was killed inside the Rohini Jail on Tuesday. Police said that he was strangulated to death by another inmate in the prison after the deceased did not follow the order of the accused.
The deceased was arrested in the theft case and was lodged in jail. The deceased was identified as Pawan who lived with his family in Rohini district area.
The family members of deceased claimed that he was arrested in March. "We got an information in the morning around 9 am after which we reached the hospital and found the body. How the incident happened has not been explained by the cops to us," said Sunil Singh, deceased's relative.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta stated that on Tuesday at 4 am, information received from Baba Sahab Ambedkar hospital that one inmate of Rohini Jail brought to the hospital, who was later declared dead by the doctors.
"The deceased has been identified as Pawan. During the investigation, it was revealed that an under-trail inmate Kishan ordered him for something on Monday night which Pawan refused," said the DCP.
Angry with the refusal, Kishan strangulated him to death. Kishan is facing trial in a case of 302 and in jail since 2013. Pawan was sent to jail in the theft case.
Police claimed that they have started the investigation in the case from all angles including any personal enmity. Sources claimed that police have also not ruled out the possibility of supremacy.
When asked whether they have arrested the accused, the DCP claimed that the accused is in the jail so the production warrant will be produced.
The family members claimed that recently no one met him but was thinking about getting him released on bail. It is not the first time when inmates clashed with each other inside the prison and sometimes in the jail van.
As per jail sources, the incident took place at 2:45 am at Rohini jail-10.
"The accused punched him in the stomach. When he was punched in the stomach, he collapsed due to the pain. The warden had brought the situation under control and the inmate was taken to the hospital around 3:27 am," said a jail official.
